NATIONAL PARKS & BUSHWALKS

Discover the history and spectacular landscape, untouched forest, and wildlife from North to South Bruny National Parks. The parks offer a wide range of activities from walking, swimming, and surfing.

A valid park pass is required for entry to Tasmania’s national parks.

Short Walk

ALONNAH-SHEEPWASH BAY TRACK

3 KM return, 1 hour, easy walk, suitable for all ages, allows for a bike ride, and dog walks. This track, located in Alonnah’s starting point, is accessible via the Pontoon area or the Sheepwash track. This track has view stops, seating areas, and a picnic area.

Mavista Nature Walk

Mavista Nature Walk, a well-graded 1.4km wet forest walk, is accessible from Resolution Rd, via Lockleys Road in Adventure Bay. Enjoy a covered picnic area at the start of the walk. This delightful walk features birds such as the Pink Robin and Scrub wren that prefer the deep shade of the tall wet forest.

Dennes Point Heritage Trail

An easy, 1.5 km return walk (45 minutes return) with beautiful views, and introduce you to the area’s amazing history. Starting from the Jetty Café, the trail takes you on a short walk to Kelly’s Point, the northernmost tip of Bruny Island, taking in some of the most heritage-rich and fascinating parts of North Bruny

Grass Point at Adventure Bay

Grass Point at Adventure Bay (1.5 hours return, 4km return). Suitable for family groups, medium experienced walkers.
Grass Point is an easy 4km return walk along the foreshore offering spectacular coastal views starting at the end of Adventure Bay Road (Pennicots restaurant ). It is also the start and end of the Fluted Cape walk.

Fluted Cape Track in Adventure Bay, 2.5 hours circuits or 5.4 km circuits
Bushwalking experience recommended. Not recommended for children. Unprotected edges and hazardous cliffs. The tracks may be long, rough, and very steep. Directional signage may be limited. (A shorter return along the coastline from Grass Point is rated easy and suitable for families – 1.5 hours return)

Mt Mangana

Mt Mangana (4km return) follows a well-formed easy track that ascends some 120m to the top of Mt Mangana. It is accessed off Coolangata Rd from either side of the island, which in itself can be quite challenging depending on how well the road has been maintained. It is a delightful walk through the semi-rainforest and may have great views from the top.

Long Walk

Truganini Lookout / Neck Lookout

Truganini Lookout / Neck Lookout (10 km long neck beach)

is the iconic Bruny lookout, with a steep flight of stairs rewarding you with fabulous views along the Neck, into the Tasman Sea, and d’Entrecasteaux Channel. Parking and toilets are excellent. At night, take your shielded torch for viewings of Little penguins and Short-tailed shearwaters coming back to feed their young.

Cape Queen Elizabeth

Cape Queen Elizabeth, 12 km return (3 hours return), moderate to hard walks.
The walk starts at the signed posted carpark, just north of the Neck, the track runs between Big Lagoon and Little Lagoon, before climbing over Mars Bluff for great views across The Neck. Following Miles Beach which could be one of the best-secluded beaches walks in Tasmania, and at the end of this, one ascends through the heath and turns right into beautiful eucalypt woodland. The track winds its way eventually up to a cliff overlooking Adventure Bay and beyond.

East Cloudy Head track

East Cloudy Head track, 12 km return about 4 hours return (suggested for amateur adventures)
Start at the car park at Cloudy Bay, with an initial 3km walk along white sand beach.
At the end of the beach, the track follows a small creek before climbing a further 3 km through bird-filled colourful heathland to East Cloudy Head. From here you’ll get fantastic views along the south coast of Bruny Island to The Friars, and the west and northwest over South Bruny to the great Southern Ocean. Return via the same route.

Labillardiere Peninsula Circuit

Labillardiere Peninsula Circuit, 17.5 km circuit, about a 5.5-7 hour walk. Bushwalking experience is recommended. It starts from Old Jetty Road, just before Cape Bruny Lighthouse.

The Luggaboine Circuit is an alternative short walk (1.5 hour circuit) starting from the lighthouse jetty beach camping area.
